UC Pathways – showcasing embedded library support for student success

UC Pathways is a key initiative of Student Success designed to retain at risk and priority learners. It combines learning and life skills to help first-year students to make the transition to university study and to develop the skills needed to succeed at university and it offers an enhanced student experience.

The Library has an exciting opportunity to be involved in the pilot UC Pathways initiative. The Library’s aim is to provide intensive targeted library support for students in the UC Pathways programme.

The following Library staff are members of the project team:

Project leader Aurelia Arona
Project sponsor Alison McIntyre
Group members Caroline Anderson, Elizabeth Cooke, Patricia Jordan, Glen Walker

We would like all Library staff to be aware of the project and the UC Pathways initiative. The project group will seek involvement from Library staff as the project develops in Semester 2.

The four key messages that the project will seek to deliver to UC Pathways students are:

• The Library is part of the University of Canterbury community and provides service points for students

• The Library helps students to find the resources they need in order to succeed in their studies

• The Library helps students to develop their academic searching skills

• The Library helps students with referencing their sources of information.

Please support this project by familiarising yourself with the UC Pathways information in the link above and by contributing to the project if you are asked to take part in specific activities.

If you have any questions about the project, please ask a member of the project group.
