This is a photo of me and Graeme Bull (histology technician in Biological Sciences), taken by our compadre Prof Phil Bones (Head of Electrical & Computer Engineering) at Labour weekend. We all own places in the same small enclave at French Farm – kind of coincidental considering the three of us work at UC too – and were over there sorting out our shared water problems up the back on the surrounding farm. All of us get our water via a pipe system, connected to a tiny spring up a very steep hill, which had been put out of action during a heavy deluge earlier in the year. The inquisitive cattle (some acting au natural at left of photo) think they own the place, so we went to a lot of trouble driving in stakes around the spring and fencing it with barbed wire (foreground) to keep them out, creating a veritable “Fort Knox” as I somewhat proudly like to call it!
Cheers, Max
