One of the actions in our Library Operational Plan 2015 is to Deliver a Library Skills Induction Programme for undergraduate students.
Ta-da! – Library 101
Library 101 is a Library induction programme for semester one intended to –
Introduce students new to university to the basic Library skills needed for independent research
Support the reading and synthesising of challenging information sources for academic success
Nick Scullin in his new role as Information Literacy Coordinator will work with the Learning and Teaching Support portfolio group in the Liaison team to develop this initiative. I’m posting this message on Nick’s behalf as he is off sick today.
There will be 4 workshops offered in the programme for semester 1.
1. Find and manage course readings – Wednesday 18th March
2. Independent research using the library – Wednesday 25th March
Then after Easter
3. Introduction to journals for science students – Wednesday 6th May
4. Introduction to using art, archives and photos in assignments – Wednesday 13th May

All of the workshops will be in Central Library room 210 on Wednesdays 1.00 – 2.00. The workshops are timed to complement the Library’s orientation activities and the Liaison Librarians’ embedded subject specific teaching.
