eBook Patron Analytics

During the ProQuest eBook training session earlier this week, it was interesting to hear about the Patron Analytics tool in the ProQuest LibCentral administrative module.  It’s a tool that would allow us to gather demographic information (such as department, college or faculty) from our users when they access eBooks which we could use to assess title usage and user triggered expenditure.  I’m wondering if this could also potentially help us to measure value and impact more as well.  Here’s a sample of what a short questionnaire could look like (this is just a rough draft). I’d be interested in comments on this possibility.ebook

  1. The info could certainly be useful, thanks Tim.
What I’m less sure about is whether it should be mandatory to fill in. Great for us but perhaps another hoop for the user.

Might be worth while chatting about wording of the drop down options if we proceed.

  2. Datasets discussed this at our meeting yesterday. We thought we would give this a try when we move to the new ProQuest eBook Central interface, and only have it up for a short period of time so we don’t add a permanent hoop/frustration for the user. Could the liaison team have a think about wording for suitable questions/drop down options? Suggesting 2-3 questions max. Thanks Tim
