if you are looking for an illustration for a talk, or a backdrop for your computer, or something for marketing, the Te Papa has put together a list of great sites you can get images you can reuse. Including their own great collection, there are ones from the New York Public Library, the National Library, and GLAMs all over the world.
That’s cool, but don’t forget Macmillan Brown has some great images of photos, artworks and archives you can use too – like this one: http://kohika.canterbury.ac.nz/M2A_IMAGES/5042.jpg
If anyone isn’t sure how to go about it or what they can use then maybe its a good time to learn!
Maybe we should make it a library policy to promote our own collections before others? Obviously we won’t have an image for every occasion, but it could be good practice to try the UC collections first. The cultural collections in MB are still largely hidden and rely on staff to promote them for reuse. We are working on our uploads to KK and Digital NZ and also our licensing, so hopefully it will soon be easier for you to use them in your presentations, marketing, etc.
