Today there has been a spat of prank AskLIVE queries coming through. AskLIVE gives you the option to block particular guests for 24 hours. You can do this once you’ve picked up a chat or via the Activity tab for past chats. There is a red button (see screenshot below) to click which will block a guest/patron.
This will block the particular computer/device (more specifically, IP address) the patron is using for 24 hours. It is a good idea to click on the IP address and check the person isn’t coming from a campus computer before blocking them.
Our hope is the person/people will get sick of trying and give up, but if there is a consistent problem despite the blocks please contact e-services and we will see if there are any other solutions the AskLIVE vendors can provide around this matter.
***Just to clarify – UC IP addresses are usually 131.181… (campus PC’s) or 202.36…(Webgate i.e. student workroom pc’s or devices using the wireless network) – should be quite obvious from the report the IP address link takes you to though (see screenshot below). ***
