Organisational culture update – meetings next week

Last month Janette Winks sent us calendar invites for a couple of update sessions next week.  These are Wednesday 29th June (9:30-10:30am) and Thursday 30th June (1:30-2:30pm) in Puaka-James Hight Room 210.  It would be great to see as many who can make it as possible.  The content at each session will be the same so please choose whichever of these sessions best suits your schedule.

We plan to cover:

  • Recap on the work done earlier this year and summary of the Library causal factors voted by Library teams as the most important we’d like to work on
  • What’s been happening with the LR project teams working on Empowerment and Goal Clarity
  • Inviting a couple of colleagues from another LR team to join us at each session and share what they’ve been doing in their team
  • A group ‘causal factor’ activity

In the group activity we plan to look at one of the causal factors voted for by Library teams that isn’t being worked on by a project at the LR level.

These are: Autonomy (the degree to which we have freedom and discretion with respect to scheduling our work and work procedures), Goal Acceptance (extent to which we fully accept goals or whether our goals are only generally or marginally accepted), Task Identity (the degree to which jobs enable us to carry out a complete and identifiable task from beginning to end) and Upward Communication (how information is sent upward from employees to people in higher-level positions).

For sake of time, we plan to pick just one of these factors to work on in each of these sessions and we’re keen to hear your suggestions in advance for which ones are of most interest.  If you have a preference for which one, please drop Stuart or I a line or post a comment here.

The outcome from these sessions is to have some ideas for how we might improve things with respect to the chosen factor which can then be picked up by the Library as a whole and/or in your teams.

Tim and Stuart
