Further to my earlier post on Kanopy, Datasets has agreed to continue supporting this streaming video service in response to teaching and research needs.

Datasets would however like to take action to reduce the instances of recreational viewing.  Our thinking is to move the Hollywood or key movie producers to “mediated DDA” mode (where users have to ask for access first before a film is activated).  This will give us the opportunity to verify the use is related to teaching/research.   However we will also be checking with Cinema Studies to see if any of the titles in these collections are resources they intend to use.

Requests for opening up other titles on Kanopy can be done in the usual way: acquisitions@libr.canterbury.ac.nz.
