Having been asked this question in recent times I thought it would be useful to do a post on this topic. According to the figures in our CAUL statistical return we acquired 3078 eBook titles last year, 49,257 were purchased under subscription, 3200 were accessed via demand-driven acquisitions and there were over 245,000 titles available for access (purchased, owned or leased). This figure would be greater if you include what’s available in total via demand-driven acquisition providers like EBL (over 800,000 in EBL). Of course we choose not to profile everything via those providers but it can be a handy option when specific titles are needed. Then there’s Academic Complete that we’ve picked up this year with over 100,000 titles so the 2016 figures are growing. Some of you are also interested in eBook numbers by subject which is often harder to work out. EBL uses subject specific categories for eBooks on its platform – some which link to subjects taught at UC and some which don’t. Academic Complete provides an option to search by call number (under Advanced search) which can give indicative numbers of books by LC call number range. If you have any questions about eBook numbers in more detail we’re happy to help.
