Purchasing profile with Academy Book Company

As reported in April, we have been working with Academy Book Company to develop a purchasing profile for NZ, Māori and Pacific material.  We’ve now received our first two pick lists from Academy which are located here:

  • K:\LIBR-Library\Info-Resources\Non-Continuing-Resources/ABC-Profile-2016-07-04.xlsx
  • K:\LIBR-Library\Info-Resources\Non-Continuing-Resources/ABC-Profile-2016-07-11.xlsx

It would be good to get your feedback as it is still early days.  Please let acquisitions@libr.canterbury.ac.nz know of any firm orders we should place.  Feedback would be particularly appreciated on:

  • what is missing that you would expect to be profiled
  • resources you’d normally order off the NZNB that are not appearing
  • what we wouldn’t want to order

This will help us to refine and improve the profile with Academy in subsequent iterations.  The aim is to get to a comfortable point where we don’t spend much time agonizing over decisions about individual titles – we trust what the profile is picking up.

  1. Library Access and Collections staff met today to discuss our interim approach to the Academy Book Company profiles received to date.

LAC will go ahead and order one copy where we have confidence in ordering material that should be ordered as a matter of routine.

We will leave other subject-specific recommendations for MB specialists and liaison librarians to check and note on the spreadsheet whether or not they should be ordered.

LAC staff will review the current week’s spreadsheet at the end of each week and order any material that has been recommended for purchase.

If you don’t get around to checking the current week’s spreadsheet within the timeframe of one week, you can send an email to acquisitions@libr.canterbury.ac.nz later noting which titles you’d like us to order.

The spreadsheet files are in K:\LIBR-Library\Info-Resources\Non-Continuing-Resources (prefixed by ABC… and the latest date appears in the filename.)

In September we will review our experience over the next month, discuss and refine our workflow as necessary.
