I am delighted to announce that the National Library of New Zealand commenced consultation to seek feedback on our Positioning for the Future document, outlining our draft strategic directions through to 2030. The consultation period runs until 31 August 2016.

We are keen to get the perspectives of everyone connected to the Library and invite you to review the document and provide feedback via the Government Online Engagement Service (GOES) platform. The consultation document is available in both English and te reo Māori.

Our draft strategic directions are bold and ambitious. Our aspiration is to contribute to a prosperous New Zealand that celebrates words as a valued part of our diverse heritage, engages everyone in reading for pleasure and ensures New Zealanders everywhere have easy access to knowledge.

Our future direction of travel is bigger than the National Library. It is about changing the way we work.  To achieve the greatest possible collective impact for New Zealand we need to forge partnerships across government agencies and the private sector.  For a little more context about our three strategic themes, have a look at the National Library blog page for recordings and transcripts of our three Horizon Series panel events from April to June: Knowledge Nation, Taonga and Mana and Reading the Signs.

The purpose of the consultation is to gain feedback, identify areas of common strategic interest and expertise as well as to determine real opportunities for partnership. The findings from the consultation will allow for the development of a final strategy in the last quarter of 2016, and an action plan for implementation in 2017.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide feedback. Your input is greatly valued and will help to shape the future direction of the National Library, keeping our proposed initiatives aligned with your interests, and ensuring that collaboration is the cornerstone of all that we do.

If you have any questions about the consultation please contact natlibfuture@dia.govt.nz.
