APA Style Central

Thanks to those who came along to the APA Style Central presentation by Neil Lader from the APA yesterday.  CAUL subscription pricing for this product would be $US8775 for 2017.  What were your thoughts?  Should we be taking a closer look at it?  Feel free to drop us an email or post a comment here.

  1. On the plus side, APA have clearly thought carefully about how to meet the needs of students/researchers working in psychology and more widely the social sciences, and are offering a well-integrated product. Particularly so early in the product’s development. The referencing support alone would be great.

On the minus side, I can’t see how its value to us at UC would go anywhere near a 8775 USD pricetag.

  2. I think it would be a hard sell to convince people to learn yet another piece of software that does not do something that they can not already do elsewhere. My vote would be to spend the $US8775 on something else.

  3. I see the value of this software as a referencing resource – it will be less work than setting up our own knowledge base. Just not convinced that value is $8775 annually.

Especially since I think it unlikely students would use the other features, both because of the need to have a separate login for this software and because they already have other software for this work that they know and are comfortable using.
