High Demand update

We had a look at High Demand during 2016.  This involved talking with people involved in the current work and assessing technology options with ITS.

High Demand involves a range of Library staff, from Customer Services, Access & Collections and Subject Librarians.  It touches many Library areas, including acquisition (especially of reading list items), and has the potential to affect other areas, including scanning/copyright and distance services.

Given the complexity of the processes and the fact that new technology (upgrade of Assyst) is due at the end of 2016, no major changes will be made this year.  We will wait for the new academic year to look at this again, as the discussions this year showed options for simplifying the High Demand process.

Thanks for your patience.

Bill Woodrow's 'Sitting On History' was purchased for the British Library by Carl Djerassi and Diane Middlebrook in 1997. It was photographed in the foyer (lobby) of the British Library. Sitting on History, with its ball and chain, refers to the book as the captor of information which we cannot escape. Information above gleaned from information sheet available at the British Library information desk. The bust you can see top left is Sir Colin St John Wilson RA - Celia Scott, 1998 - a gift from the American Trust for the British Library
