Level 4 – Central Library progress

The contractors return to level 4 on Thursday to dismantle the second block of older shelving. The photos below show the new shelving in place at the start of the floor. Level 4 now starts part way through the PA sequence. We just couldn’t fit all of PA on Level 6 and we don’t have the luxury of leaving empty shelving. The second photo starts to give the feel for the space the classroom collection will use in 2018.

Work will continue on level 4 in January with our casual staff starting back on Wednesday 11 January. Sandra and I start back on Monday 9 January. In order to clear the shelving to be moved we have had to ‘poke’ stock where we could. This means that a section of PR and PS are on Level 7 and on level 4 the remainder of the PS is between PN and PR. We just couldn’t face moving a whole lot of stock for the sake of keeping the sequence right for the next two weeks. The catalogue is correct regarding the floor level. Once the contractors leave, the staff will finish moving the stock forward. From time to time we may need to change the restrictions zones on the level 4. We promise that when we finish the books will be shelved in sequence. Joan and Sandra
