Library Access and Collections (LAC) has begun work on the annual review of the Library’s continuing information resources (subscriptions). This review will support the University’s goal to manage its resources prudently and to ensure financial sustainability. The review seeks to identify resources that are no longer required for UC learning, teaching or research, or where other more cost-effective options for acquisition are available. Cancellation of resources no longer required or available in more cost-effective ways helps to free up money to subscribe to new resources to support changing needs at UC. In particular, the Information Resources Working Group has identified Fire and Construction engineering as well as Criminal Justice as areas where needs have grown.
This year LAC will be trialling the preparation of the cost/download data in Intota for the first time. We will then provide the information in a suitable format (eg Excel) for subject librarians and academic departments to be able to review. We will be seeking feedback on the resources proposed for cancellation or review and new subscriptions needed. We expect the data to be ready in early May.
The review (cancellations and new subscriptions identified and agreed) needs to be completed by the end of July in time for the subscriptions renewal cycle. The Information Resources Advisory Group along with Library Committee will also be consulted on any changes so that any cancellations and new subscriptions are considered from an across-the-university perspective.
