MyAccount login in Firefox

Kia ora koutou

With the latest version of Firefox some login forms are displaying pop up messages when the form is not https.  The pop-ups appear after placing the cursor in a username and password field.

The login to the library catalogue/My Account is affected by this.  We are working with IT on getting the catalogue onto https, which will make it more secure and avoid these popup messages but this has not been completed yet .

You may get concerned students/staff who use Firefox reporting the popup messages.  There shouldn’t be any real reason for concern (to our knowledge no logins to the catalogue have ever been compromised), but, if concerned, users do have the option of using their library barcode and PIN combinations rather than their UC logins (PINs can be reset by customer services staff).

Though annoying, the popups will still allow you to enter text and log in (use Tab to go to the next field, or click out of the field and the pop up will disappear).

  1. NB – if you’re teaching involving the catalogue in the next couple of weeks (anything that requires demonstrating MyAccount login) – probably best not to use Firefox, so you can avoid this issue.
