The Library Access and Collections team has a fixed-term vacancy for a maximum of 12 months for the role of Information Resource Assistant. This role supports our Acquisitions and Discovery services particularly in the areas of Interloans, Research Repository, Acquisitions and Cataloguing. The role is full-time and paid at Band 2.
This position provides vital support to staff and students who need information resources to support their learning, teaching and research. The position operates in the matrix structure of Acquisitions and Discovery, which requires time management skills to manage competing demands. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also required and the ability to work well in a team is essential.
Duties will include:
- Determining relevant suppliers and using purchasing tools to place and receive orders for information resources
- Requesting from and supplying items to external organisations for interloans
- Downloading bibliographic records or creating brief records for the description of information resources
- Performing administrative duties relating to UC theses being deposited into the Research Repository
- Providing support for project work
We are looking for:
- Someone who is interested in learning Acquisitions and Discovery tasks
- 2 years’ experience working in libraries or equivalent
- Excellent customer service skills and experience
- Analytical skills and the ability to source information
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook

This position is open to all current library staff and will provide backfill cover for staff who in turn are covering a parental leave vacancy. Your current position will remain open for you to return to at the end of the secondment. The start date will be agreed with the successful applicant and will relate to the actual dates of the parental leave, which is currently scheduled for September 2017-August 2018. Negotiation may be necessary with your current team and this is open to discussion.
