Relocation of the Copy Centre

Kia ora koutou,

discussions are underway at the moment between the Copy Centre, Library and IT around the relocation of the Copy Centre from its current position in the Undercroft to a temporary (up to 2 years) location in the IT Workroom area of level 2 Central Library.

The Library would still proceed with work and business case(s) on how to continue to reconfigure Level 2 as a continuation of our staged approach to give best effect to our own services, values and operational plan objectives.

IT services would still be maintained from the Help Desk area, and work would continue into streamlining these services (both face to face and online) for best effect for students and staff.

If anyone has any comments that they would like to make regarding this proposal, please either make them here or email them to me directly.

Thanks,

Lyndsay.

  1. Good question, Jenny. In terms of increasing revenue for the University, the space where the Copy Centre is currently could be let to an external tenant. The more appropriately sourced revenue we bring in, the better 🙂

  2. Is there a permanent location in mind for the Copy Centre? It seems like somewhere in PJH is the most common sense place for the copy centre in terms of centrality for customers, so I’d be concerned that what’s mooted as temporary could become permanent. Would hate to put in work on the business case and so on, only for the space to disappear.

  3. Thanks Fiona, the use of the word temporary is quite intentional and was used in the communications to all of LR. While I don’t know what the final intentions are for the Undercroft, I do know that the idea of bringing services together there for students once the UCSA building is completed is very important to a number of people.
The future locations and services of the UC Print group as a whole will of course be something that they continue to work on internally, just as we continue reviewing what is best for us. The most important part of this next chapter is the cross- function conversations that will need to happen as we each move forward on our own plans, to ensure that they are congruent and maximise our ability to give good service.
Sorry, on reading this back it seems like a lot of weasel words, but it is what I know at the moment.
