So I see this posting on Facebook from the University of Canterbury Library about the friendly and helpful subject librarians that will help people with Referencing and EndNote. This posting includes photos of Janette, Fiona, Kathryn, Kim and Margaret. What happened to all the other librarians who help with this area ???
Will refer all my future referencing and EndNote queries to them if they are promoting themselves as the experts
Hi Alison,
With this kind of post where we include a link to large page, what Facebook does is it automatically finds the first five images on the page (in this case, the Business, then Education subject librarians) and includes them in what would otherwise just be a text post. The last slide says “see more” and directs students to the full page of Subject Librarians, as does the main link in the post.
No one is intending to promote certain subject librarians over others!
I think there could have been more text content about services across the library and a link to pictures should have been avoided … particularly if only the first five pictures were going to be added
I (Romy – posting on behalf of e-services) concur with what Kiera said – the Facebook link preview is mostly out of our hands. With the new website CMS (T4) we do have the ability to alter the metadata for the page being linked to and can potentially control what image is displayed in the FB preview…but it would be set for the page itself and can’t be customized for a particular Facebook post theme.
My argument would be that another link or photo could have been used that would have avoided the unintended consequences of that posting.
Hi, can I suggest that Counterculture is not really the place to make negative comments about our friends and colleagues as this adds nothing to the wider library team. I am happy to discuss anything further.
