Older browsers will not work with many of our databases

We wanted to put some publicity out about this in case you get queries from students or staff. University supplied machines should not be affected.

Many of our publishers are moving their journal hosting to a company called Atypon using a platform called Atypon Literatum. This includes Taylor & Francis, IEEE, and Wiley. A full list is available on the Atypon site.

This platform does not support old browsers. In particular Internet Explorer 10 and earlier will not work. If you are working with students or staff who report problems with some databases it would be worth checking how current their browser is.

  1. Is this related?

I had a student yesterday who reported that multiple journal articles have not loaded properly. The one she showed me had the strange problem that the first page of the PDF loaded properly but the rest of the document was blurry even after downloading. This was on a student PC at EPS. She got the same result on IE, FF and Chrome. I tired the same article on my work PC and got the same result on Chrome but it load normally on FF for me. Wiley was the publisher. She said that other articles have had the same problem.

    1. I’ve seen a number of problems reported with Wiley recently as they move to the new platform – especially with full text access. However, blurry pages doesn’t sound symptomatic of those problems. If you come across this again I’d be interesting in hearing.

      1. The offending article now loads correctly in both FF and Chrome, although it takes forever to load in FF. I guess Wiley are working on the problem.
