Project MUSE open access books

Blurb: “… Project MUSE is pleased to announce that over 550 humanities and social science books from several distinguished university presses are now available on our platform as fully open access (OA). These books are provided through the permission of their publishers and are freely available to libraries and users around the world. Open access titles may be searched and browsed using the same tools for all content on the MUSE site, and will appear in search results alongside MUSE journals and books already owned by participating libraries. Users need not register or log in to access the books, and – like all book content on MUSE – the OA titles are offered in a DRM-free format with unlimited downloading and printing …”

  1. There are some very useful books in this list, but at present they seem to be largely unfindable:
    * On ProjectMuse itself, the books I’ve searched for don’t appear in the result list unless the default box “Only content I have full access to” is unticked ~ can this search behaviour be changed?
    * They don’t appear on the Library catalogue or MultiSearch

Would it be possible to add some titles to the Library catalogue/MultiSearch? We probably don’t want them all (e.g. Mule Deer: A Handbook for Utah Hunters and Landowners [!]), but these are the ones I’ve noted of interest to Classics and Philosophy:

    CLAS
9780814271582 A Latin Lover in Ancient Rome (we have this title in print already)
9780814271186 Fama and Fiction in Vergil’s Aeneid
9781611682298 Artistry of the Homeric Simile
    9780814270165 Translating Troy

    PHIL
9780823275823 The Insistence of Art: Aesthetic Philosophy after Early Modernity
9780810134027 The Middle Included: Logos in Aristotle
    9780823267804 Technicians of Human Dignity
9780810165670 Tropes of Transport: Hegel and Emotion
    9780776616179 Kierkegaard’s Romantic Legacy
    9780776617640 Rephrasing Heidegger

  2. Project Muse have changed a setting so the OA books now appear when “only content I have full access to” is checked. Yesterday Nicole loaded a set of MARC records in Horizon for the books. They can be found by doing a series search: ‘Book collections on Project MUSE’. The records should be indexed in Summon in a week or two.
