We are preparing the upgrade of compatible desktops, laptops and tablets, currently on Windows 7.  This involves a customised migration of a range of settings and preferences.

Imminent actions needed

It is essential users remove any personal files from devices, and ensure work relates files are on network drives.

Guidance is on the intranet, with staff login:

How do I prepare for upgrade?

Guidance is on the intranet:

Other units in Puaka-James Hight will be upgraded at later dates. Public access computers and computer workrooms are being done under separate work.

Upgrade first steps

We have been gathering essential information to support this transition.

My colleagues have been running an audit programme on devices. This tells us what software is installed for a user.  It helps us prioritise the significant work of ‘packaging’ software – for the growing selection in the Windows 10 Software Center.

We are also looking at hardware models, and proximity to replacement, to accelerate this where needed.

Further support

I am more than happy to come to team meetings to brief, and answer upgrade specific questions.

Peter Kennedy is your internal contact, feel free to contact me or to email windows10upgrade@canterbury.ac.nz.
