Based on an idea we’ve stolen from Monash University Library, we thought we’d try out their idea of “Eat cake and write”. For more information see slide 8 on Monash’s presentation to the CAUL statistics forum last month. You might also like to google “Shut up and Write” which is the model they’ve based this on.
The basic idea is any library staff member can come along to a session where you write “library impact stories” individually. My suggestion would be to add in the option of not shutting up. We could choose for instance to write together as a group say in twos or threes. There are two 20 minute writing “sprints” with a break in between and an opportunity at the end for sharing stories. Along with cake of course, used as a device to assist those creative juices and do this together in a fun social setting. Content of what we write is decided on the day by those who turn up.
Possible applications: library marketing stories, learnings to share on Counterculture, content for the University Librarian and Library Committee reports, stories for your Bob/PD+R journal or RLIANZA Professional Registration journal etc etc…
If anyone turns up and the verdict is the idea has merit, we will try it again the following month!
Venue: Room 210 Puaka James Hight
Date: Friday 29th June 11:00am-12:00pm
An RSVP would be helpful, but not essential (for catering purposes) to Tim Stedman
I’m keen on cake :-), (I mean I’m keen to take part), but I don’t work Fridays, so it would be good if another session was to be held on another day some time….

Thanks Caroline, in that case sounds like worth doing a second one in July and I’ll pick a date that’s earlier in the week for that one.
Thanks for organising this Tim. I found having the time set aside for this very helpful (and the cakes were good too!).
Oh no…. I didn’t mean to miss out on the cakes !!
