Facilities Management are currently involved in a job to replace all the fluorescent tubes on level 11 and level 4. The reason for this is that the tubes are at the end of their lives. They can be on for up to 17 or 18 hours a day which over time adds up quickly to the expected life of the tube. They also tend to fade a bit as they get older, before they flicker and die.
Otherwise I have a BIEMS request in to replace dead tubes on the other floors. FM find it easier to come to the library to replace more than one tube at a time.
FM will come over to replace individual tubes if they are emergency lights or crucial for other reasons, eg in stairwells or over a work area. Otherwise the odd dead tube can wait to be done after a regular check of all the lights in the building about once every six months or so.
