500 days

As this is my last day here I’ve been thinking about all the things I’m going to miss about UC and Macmillan Brown Library. There really is far too much to list here, so instead here’s one thing I am NOT going to miss.

Most of you won’t know that the MB Library Assistants have a special task that one of us does at least once a day.  We go down the stairs into the cold, dank basement and empty the water that has collected in the dehumidifier into the blue bucket, carry it up the stairs, empty it in the sink, then head back down the stairs to return the bucket to its proper place. Today on my very last trek down I noticed the counter had hit exactly 500 which is the number of days this dehumidifier has been running, and that we have been going up and down the stairs (and means its time to replace the filter).  I really hope FM manage to solve the dampness issue before 500 more days pass…

Thanks to everyone for your support and kindness over the past few years. I really am going to miss the team and look forward to having you all visit me in Tūranga Library when it opens!
