ScienceDirect problems

Over the last week Elsevier have had a number of problems relating to ScienceDirect. Earlier this week you couldn’t download PDFs. That was fixed. Other problems (which haven’t happened here) have also been reported.

Now you may see an error message when you attempt to connect to an article via Multisearch or Google Full text links – if you have a doi link with Ezproxy in front e.g.

http://ezproxy.canterbury.ac.nz/login?url=https://doi.org/10.1016/j.energy.2019.04.120

you can remove the ezproxy part (if on campus) and the link will work:

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.energy.2019.04.120

This won’t help off campus. The typical error message looks like this:

I’ve reported this.

  1. This is a general worldwide issue, so we’d suggest users not interloan them, but rather wait for the issue to resolve itself, thanks

  2. ScienceDirect should be fine now. This particular problem was specific to us – Elsevier blocked our Ezproxy server because they detected excessive downloads.

    Margaret Adam is investigating.
