I’m copying this from ITS for any of you who may work with students with Macs. In essence, ITS are suggesting students who update their Macs to a new operating system soon to be released, may have problems. The post follows:
The new macOS Catalina is due for release in the next few weeks. IT Services are strongly advising users not to upgrade at this stage, as this release only allows 64-bit applications to run and users may be caught out if they rely on legacy 32-bit applications for their work. The Internet Enabler application is an example of a 32-bit app that will not run on Catalina.
Investigation is underway to determine what can be done to resolve the Internet Enabler incompatibility. Other applications will rely on the vendor updating or finding an alternative. If you have further questions regarding the use of macOS Catalina at UC, please contact Bruce Penno in the first instance. We will provide another update to confirm once we are able to endorse the use of macOS Catalina at UC.
