Herea tō Waka 2020

The Library’s Herea tō Waka 2020 group recently formed and the work we will be doing is focused around Orientation and Induction combined (first 6 weeks).

The phase ‘herea tō waka’ means to ‘tie up your waka’ and is a reference to what we do when our waka (sailing vessel) comes into landing – we tie it firmly to the shore so that it doesn’t drift away.

The thought behind this translation is that the waka is a metaphor for our students arriving here at UC at the start of their journey and  them tying their waka to the shoreline that is UC/Library to ensure their grounding here is firm.

We will be asking for support with different activities as the work progresses (O-day, Info stall, study buddies etc) early next year. In the mean time, if you would like to know more, feel free to talk to anyone in the group – Margaret, Juliet, Zina, Gavin, Beth, Sean and Rā.
