We had a very productive summer at MB, using this quieter time to achieve a huge amount of work aimed at delivering easy access to collections for our users, and preserving them for long term use. As well as maintaining our frontline service, and answering a steady number of enquiries and copy requests, our Library assistant team have worked on a wide variety of mini projects. We had wonderful support from Emily, Angela, Josh, Sean and Zahra from the casual team, completing major collection moves in the library warehouse and tidying up other areas of the collection. Early in the summer we had help from Chris, Mariko and Glenna, scanning items from the Hornsby archive. Here are just a few of our summer successes:
- Digitisation of Hornsby and Holmes archive collection sin response to research enquiries.
- Development of new ‘Ōtautahi’ and ‘Arts and Crafts’ featured content on Kā Kohika.
- Checking of MB subject guides.
- Māori Land Court Minute books and local and Pacific newspapers moved to new shelving.
- Identifying non NZ and Pacific books in the John Macmillan Brown published collection.
- Assisting Lydia with art installations in new buildings.
- Planning for re-organisation of the Aotearoa Room.
- Reviewing published items from the archive collections existing against holdings.
- Tidying Māori newspapers collection.
- Moving Pacific serials from the warehouse into the main run at MB.
- Completion of rolled architectural drawings re-housing.
- Preparing Chapple collection of Māori and Pacific religious texts for digitisation.
Well done everyone! I recently toured the Warehouse with Jo and it has undergone an incredible transformation.
