Resource Discovery Team – what have we been up to?

The Resource Discovery Team have been busy adjusting to WFH (working from home), responding to enquiries as well as working on their usual tasks.  We were fortunate that most team members had trialled  a day WFH before the lockdown commenced which made the transition a little smoother and they could pass on tips and tricks such as not using skype from your remote desktop!

Eservices: Have handled 141 enquiries related to COVID-19 so far.  These include:

  • information resource access issues
  • remote access help
  • assisting staff setup devices and use things like zoom
  • comms/web updates
  • library hours changes
  • Horizon changes and updates (extending due dates, stopping recalls/requests, dayend, wording changes)
  • linking to new electronic resources (ezproxy testing, configuration changes)
  • creating new libguide for COVID resources
  • Asklive support

They have also had quite a few student enquiries about logins, resource links, and working from overseas.  On top of this they have setup chat channels on Zoom, done some work on Minisis and starting looking at learning about FOLIO (open source library software)

Resource Discovery Librarians:

  • Providing records and database metadata for new resources we have short term access to
  • Creating and loading ebook records for LexisNexis and Thomson Reuters online textbooks
  • Cataloguing of theses
  • Research Repository – metadata and access to research resources
  • Registering DOIs and providing metadata
  • Working on data cleanup of place authorities and orphan records in Minisis
  • Digital Project work – literature review

Information Resource Assistants:

  • Interloans: authorising requests, supply articles, answering emails, renewals
  • Acquisitions: ordering books for Subject Librarians, many ebook orders for Interloan users, receiving ebooks, pass invoices to Finance, contact publishers
  • Cataloguing: mainly ebooks
  • Asklive
  • digitisation work (on theses or books scanned before lockdown) and tidy up of digitised items.
  • Emails and getting set up for WFH

The team are doing an amazing job and I’m very proud of all their work and the way they help others. We are all finding this week slightly easier and more familiar routines  now for WFH.  We are finding taking more breaks from your computer is a big help with the tiredness.  Some of us have also taken a few days leave which is helping as well.
