We will be reinstating fines and automatic recalls from 10 July. Any overdue recalls and standard loan items returned prior to Friday 10th July should not have any fines set when returned. However, after we’ve reinstated fine rates on 10 July overdue items will set fines for the entire overdue period (not just for days from 10 July).
We have put a post on library news about this encouraging people to return or renew overdue items before Friday if they can.
Our apologies – we realised today we had left recall fines on over the alert levels 3-1 period (was a separate setting we missed when we zeroed fine rates back in April). They’ve been zeroed now and any recall fines set from overdue recalls from 24th April – today were waived. Recalled items overdue on 10 July and onwards will incur fines for the entire overdue period when returned so there may be a few people with $15 fines to start off semester 2.
Reinstating these 2 features will bring us close to reverting to pre-COVID circulation conditions – the only COVID-19 service/Horizon change remaining in Semester 2 is the ‘click and post’ service for staff and postgrads (allowing them to select postal delivery for holds). Non-distance borrowers still using this service in semester 2 will probably have their borrower accounts changed to distance borrower accounts so that appropriate due date and grace periods will be applied (e.g. for auto recalls).
