Self-service kiosk workflow change

Kia ora koutou

On the 10th August we made a change to the workflows on the self-service kiosks at central and eps to allow patrons to use the return items function without having to first scan their cards.

The self-loan station app is now configured to offer all the options after a patron touches the screen and will only prompt them to scan their card for a function they need to log in for (view account, view reservations and borrow items).  This means that the email receipt option is not available to people using the return items function from the home screen and the printed returns receipts will also be lacking borrower details.  If borrowers want return receipts emailed to them they would have to select one of the other options first (e.g. view account), scan their card, go “back to menu” and then select “return items”, they’ll then get the email receipt option.

We recently changed the holds available pop-up screen that came up once a borrower scans their card (to “borrow items” or view their account) if they had holds available.  It used to load the reservations page which had details of what the item was but then would land them back at the “home” screen where they would have to re-select “borrow items” to continue.  This was a bit confusing to students so we have now moved to the “holds notification pop-up message” – this just pops up over the borrow items screen and borrowers can proceed to borrow after closing the message pop-up.  This method doesn’t state the hold item details.

Ngā mihi,
