Please join us in welcoming Jemma Wiki to UC Puna with a Mihi Whakatau on Tuesday 9th Feb from 10am. This will be in the Pasifika Lali room and will be followed by kai.
For those who might not be familiar with what a Mihi whakatau is, it is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions, openings and general purpose. For some tribes a pōhiri, or pōwhiri, is used for the ritual of encounter on a marae only.
Usually the person receiving the Mihi whakatau will bring people ie either whānau or collegues to tautoko (support) them, so in this case Christchurch City Library staff.
The waiata we will be singing is Manu Tiria which is a well known Ngai Tahu song – (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSstJybuqrY)Lyrics are below and there will be copies on the day.
- Manu tiria, manu tiria
- Manu werohia ki te poho o Te Raka
- Ka tau rerere
- Ka tau mai i te ruhi
- E tau e koia a
- Koia koia ko Tararauriki
- Ki mai Maui
- Ehara i te whitu me te waru e
- E tau e koia, koia
If you can make it, please RSVP to me for catering purposes.
