Email migration update

Kia ora koutou

We’ve heard back from the exchange migration project RE the email sent out yesterday.  They have discovered some department lists in PeopleSoft for the library that they don’t think were necessarily covered in the last library staff email migration in February.  So they are doing another round to make sure everyone has been migrated.

If you have already gone through the process successfully  in February you won’t need to do it again – you can ignore/delete the email from Ian To verify this go to the File menu in your Outlook and see what the link is under Account Settings – if it has a 365 in it (see e.g. image) somewhere you are done :).

If you still have canterbury.ac.nz in Account Settings you are still on the old exchange server and need to complete the migration steps/instructions on the day you’re due to switch over:

  • Customer Services and LAC – Monday 22nd
  • LT&R and MB – Tuesday 23rd
  • anyone else not in the above departments (according to PeopleSoft) – Wednesday 24th.

If you fit the category above and didn’t get Ian’s email yesterday let us know and we will forward it to you.

In addition to the instructions sent out – if you are using LibCal Appointments (a.k.a. MyScheduler) you will need to disconnect your Outlook/Exchange integration (under Intergrations in the Appointments menu) and set this up again – server/host will now be outlook.office365.com and your username will be your email address rather than your username.  If you get an error when you test & verify your connection contact us and we’ll help you troubleshoot.

  1. Ian’s email said that we must complete MultiFactor Authentication to be able to access our email off campus in the event of another lockdown. Were we asked to do that previously – I don’t remember doing it?

    1. Kia ora – I didn’t get the previous mail out of documents but Peter has verified that yep multi-factor was part of the documents sent out.
If you haven’t done it you probably should because the university is kicking off with this soon as part of their security review and the move to office 365 coming up. Once set up, you’ll likely only need to text message /landline verify once a quarter when accessing from off-campus. We think that if there is another lockdown and you are remote accessing your computer on campus (or using a UC laptop/device) you will still be ok even if you haven’t done the multi-factor authentication set up but better to be safe than sorry. And it’s good to be able to access your email in other ways e.g. via webmail from off campus too.
      Ngā mihi,
