Kia ora koutou!
Please enjoy the 2022 Rā Tōmene/Open Day event summary below, but first, I just wanted to extend a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who contributed to Rā Tōmene/Open Day this year, we really couldn’t have done it without your Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, and Tiakitanga.
A huge amount of planning went into this event, as it is one of our largest events of the year. It is also one of our most important events, as we are appealing to prospective students. Furthermore, this year was particularly special because it was the first year that Rā Tōmene was able to run as-normal in three years, due to covid-19.
Puna Stall
The Puna Stall was part of the UC Info Hub located down on the Beatrice Tinsley quad and was a great success! The team engaged with approximately 323 people while promoting our two O’Day competitions (Puna Passport and Insta choc giveaway), giving away freebies (postcards, badges, and stickers), and answering questions about the library’s services. Mini info tables were also set up at each library and included handy resources for prospective students to browse and collect as they ventured into our libraries. The resources included printed Puna Passports and stickers, 2022 library brochures, postcards, and self-guided tour guides.
In addition to the Info Hub stall, the team also set up a display in PJH which represented all three libraries (and included 3D printed models of each library thanks to Zina and Ryan!). In PJH, floor stickers were strategically used to direct people into the makerspace, through to the Puna Lounge, and to our self-guided tour station. The self-guided tour guides were highly successful and an estimated 1500 O’Day visitors were engaged by library staff, as they entered PJH.
Puna Passport
The Puna Passport challenge was also a success, with 37 entries from across our libraries. Our three winners have been drawn and will each receive a bespoke UC Puna library tourism tee, designed by Ryan!
Puna Lounge
The refreshments in the Puna Lounge were gratefully received by weary students, visitors and whānau. The citrus-infused water was especially favoured by all!
Overall, Rā Tōmene 2022 was a successful day, thanks to everyone getting involved! We look forward to next year!
Ngā mihi,
Isabella (on behalf of the Rā Tōmene Library events team)
