No tea lady rest of this week

Shirley is on sick leave for the remainder of this week (Wednesday to Friday, 24 – 26 inclusive), in order to look after a sick relative. There will be no tea lady services on these days.

Betty will be at work on Monday and Tuesday (29 and 30 November), with her last day at work being Tuesday.

From Wednesday 1 December onwards there will be no tea lady services in the Central Library.

Congratulations Liz

I am very pleased to announce that Liz has been appointed to the role of Capital Projects Administrator. Liz’s last day in the Library will be Thursday, 11 November, as she starts her new role on Monday 15 November. Well done Liz!
Liz will of course still retain strong links with the Library, as FM is just another arm of the new Learning Resources directorate.

Access to Level 5 for next week

I have received the following information from Rod Oudshoorn in FM.

“Access to the tea room is via the staff lift 15 which has been cleared for use(someone must have removed notice or it’s blown away).
The other central lifts 11 to 14 are not available for access to L5 as access to the tea room would be through the collections area which is currently a construction zone.
General access to other floors by librarians is via card access only with no student access available.

Group Manager Engineering”

I hope that this clarifies egress arrangements for next week, and allays any fears staff may have over using the staff lift.

LIANZA Conference, November 2010

The 2010 Conference for LIANZA is to be held in Dunedin, 28 November to 1 December.

Staff interested in attending, and who have already indicated this in their current PD&R, should discuss this with their manager, and forward to me their request to attend, and supporting documentation from their manager.

Please bear in mind the Library SOP “Library support for LIANZA” and the relevant section,
“The Library will pay the LIANZA members rate for attendance at LIANZA professional development events and LIANZA Conferences. Library staff who are not members of LIANZA will pay the balance between the member and non-member rate, unless for some reason the Library requires the staff member to attend the event .”

Follow this link for further information on the Conference. Registration is not yet available.

When registration is available, and numbers and names of those the Library will support to attend are confirmed, all registration, travel and accommodation arrangements are to be made through Maureen.

Annual Diversity Forum

The annual Diversity Forum hosted by the Human Rights Commission is being held in Christchurch this year – August 22-23. Please read below, and discuss with your manager/supervisor if you are interested in attending the entire event ($50 registration), which the Library will support. To register go to this link. For payment options, discuss with Maureen.

There is also the option to attend the library part only (no registration or fee required). Aoraki Lianza need to know if you want to attend this, so that they can communicate with you directly. Please email to Jill Richardson.

For the last 4 years Waitakere Libraries have provided invaluable leadership in establishing a library focussed event at this Forum.
See this link.

This year for the first time the organising group are partnering with Aoraki Lianza to run the library segment. Apart from this 2 hour segment on Monday 23rd, 11-1, there will be a wealth of other diversity related presentations/workshops and keynote addresses over the 2 days. Continue to check the website above for programme developments.
The aim is to continue building a conversation for librarians around issues that relate to our increasingly diverse customer base.
The Libraries Programme:
For those participants arriving on Sunday 22nd August we will be offering a tour of some key public and tertiary libraries in the afternoon.
For Monday 23rd August, 11-1, we are planning to have two brief keynote presentations relating to migrant demographics and migrant employment followed by a choice of chaired discussion groups where everyone will be encouraged to contribute. Ideas put forward so far include “connecting with your diverse communities”, “making the most of a diverse workplace”, “International students and their library experiences”, “building good community collections”. Throughout the day there will be a library kiosk where networking/sharing can continue.
This is an opportunity to gain some professional development relating to BOK 3 of your professional registration journal.

Any further questions, please talk to Erin.
