Mushtak will lead this workshop on how to use Learn and other useful tips. Students will learn how to forward student email so they only have to check one place, how to use Turnitin and a little bit about Office 365.
The workshop is offered everyday next week for students new to UC wanting to get prepared before they start their courses, and again on Monday 17th July, which is the first day of the new semester. There are online and face to face offerings. Please encourage students new to the University to sign up. We think it will be worth their while.
The workshop has been developed in response to feedback from students that they don’t know what they can do with Learn and other UC technologies.

This initiative is the next in a series of “experiments” as we work on increasing engagement with students – in particular students who we don’t meet in workshops, at Information Desks or in consultations.
Please note there will be no waiata session tomorrow (17 May) as Tamara will be attending a tangi.

Library eServices received this feedback via the AskLive survey.
“It’s such a fabulous service, I use AskLive a lot and am always thrilled with the help I get!”
The respondent was a member of academic staff. She uses the service when working off campus and often in the evenings. It’s great to know that this work of our frontline teams is so valued by academic staff and students and that it makes a significant difference in their lives here at UC. Well done.
Congratulations Saharu Shoji who has accepted the 10 week fixed term band 4 role in the Learning, Teaching and Research Support team. Saharu will be supporting Kiera to coordinate workshops in response to the growing demand for transition to university programmes in term 2. She’ll also be working on an evaluation of one of our embedded information literacy programmes. This work will help us to ensure the quality of our information literacy initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement in Library blended and face to face teaching.
There has been a lot of change in subject specialists over the last wee while so you might be forgiven if you’re not always sure who is doing which subjects these days. Here is an updated list of subject librarians and their subject responsibilities. Note the rows highlighted in pink indicate that there has been a change. Note also the college representatives who attend monthly college committee meetings (Formerly faculty meetings). The Subject Guides are recommended if you need to refer to a subject specialist.
Observant amongst you may have noticed an initiative in the Operational Plan to establish a Learning Resources waiata group (OP 6.2). The Māori Development Team (MDT) do not have capacity right now for a specifically LR waiata group but have kindly invited us to join with them on Wednesday mornings 11.00 – 12.00 in Room 208, Te Ao Marama for waiata practice.
Please note – this Wednesday 12th April is Māori graduation so there won’t be a waiata practice as all of The Māori Development Team (MDT) will be there.
Obviously not everyone will be able to up sticks and head off to Te Ao Marama every Wendesday so please check in with your colleagues to make sure that everyone who wants to gets to go sometimes. If you can’t come along every week you’ll be made very welcome on the days that you can.
The idea is to develop confidence in a repertoire of waiata and that the group may be called upon to support speakers at UC hosted events. It’s always good to bring staff together from across departments, it signals our support for bicultural development and it’s fun.

“Ātea taken from the term marae ātea (the space directly in front of the whare and which is commonly known as a marae, where most of the gathering and commemorations happen). Listen to how it is pronounced here
