We all know that Google has trouble assigning authorship to papers
Dave L has gone bananas !!
The Engineering 101 assignment closed today …. Dave L had 18 My Scheduler appointments and 11 other people booked in to see him … all before 3 pm and then a fire alarm and a building evacuation occurred 15 minutes before the deadline ….
Dave does not recommend this on a regular basis
We wish him well for his recovery
Oh the perils of cross cultural communication….
So there I was helping an international student with EndNote…
I suggested naming the file aaaaa.pdf ( to make it easier for her to identify the exact pdf).
She wrote down iiiiiii.pdf…..
I had to laugh – that is the vowel shift in New Zealand English that confuses everyone but us.
Your laugh for the day….
I was searching on Summon…for articles on groynes – and Summon supplied articles on groins ….not the same thing at all. Now I have a big smile on my face!
Third Professional Civil Engineering classes
if you have queries about these classes you can refer students to
https://canterbury.libcal.com/calendar/3proeng
and the students can choose what one class they can attend
They can also ask me to hold a class at a different time… just ask them to email me…
These classes are compulsory for all 4th year engineering students – all 160 of them…

Metadata mega mess in Google Scholar This is a 2010 article and I am not sure how relevant it still is…Google Scholar has improved since then …but I know I should be aware of these issues
Posting from Musings about Librarianship
Points out that Microsoft Academic was relaunched in late 2017 so worth another look at….
Dimensions by Digital Science is a new search engine that may also be worth investigating for future relevance
EndNote problem of the month…
Many thanks to Nick for having the perseverance to solve a tricky MAC EndNote problem – the person could not open EndNote as it told him someone else was using his EndNote login….
The real problem was that his library was corrupted but it took a lot of trial and error to fix the problem. Nick rebuilt the library for him. Now the student can submit his thesis
Thanks to Romy too for suggesting various steps and no thanks to EndNote for their enigmatic error messages !
Great initiative from the Library Facebook peeps
So I see this posting on Facebook from the University of Canterbury Library about the friendly and helpful subject librarians that will help people with Referencing and EndNote. This posting includes photos of Janette, Fiona, Kathryn, Kim and Margaret. What happened to all the other librarians who help with this area ???
Will refer all my future referencing and EndNote queries to them if they are promoting themselves as the experts
