Pre-Employees and Library Access

You may have occasionally come across people with a Canterbury Card that deems them to be “pre-employees” – these people came to our attention because their cards did not have barcodes. Pre-employees are usually new staff members, generally from overseas, who are employed by UC as continuing or fixed term staff but currently don’t have IRD numbers or bank accounts. Historically, the records for these people came through to the Library as casuals and, as per Library policy, they were not allocated library accounts. As this does not truly reflect their actual employment HR have made a change and pre-employees records now come through to the Library as fixed term staff and, as per Library policy, they have been allocated library accounts on Horizon with normal staff privileges.

It is assumed that their cards will now have barcodes and so pre-employees will never come to our notice. If you discover otherwise, please let me and know and I will follow up.

New Special Agreement Borrower Groups

The Library has entered into an agreement with three Christchurch music groups that will enable their members to join the UC Library. Patricia Jordan has facilitated these agreements that will contribute to fostering strong community connections with the community and ensuring that the library’s rich collection of organ scores is well used.

These groups are:

• Christchurch Organists’ Association
• Institute of Registered Music Teachers
• Music Education NZ/Aotearoa (MENZA)

This arrangement is being announced to members of these groups tomorrow.

These borrowers will be signed up for 1 year at a time, irrespective of the dates on their various proof of membership. They are exempt subscription fees, paying $10 on first registration for the Canterbury Card.

New general library email account

The main contact email for the library has changed. It used to be lending@libr.canterbury.ac.nz. and it now library@canterbury.ac.nz.

The website has been updated. Library notice programs are in the process of being updated. The wiki will be updated.

The old email address has been removed from the global directory. However, if you used to email the old address a lot it will still show up as a remembered email address unless you delete it. To do so in your Outlook, pretend you are going to email lending@ but rather than selecting it when it suggests this email address, click the little ‘x’ to the right hand side. Voila, the non-existent email address shall haunt you no more.

Let me know if have any questions.

Cheers,
Fiona

ULANZ/CTA My Library Account Pins

Further to my earlier update about My Library Account pins needing to be 7 digits or shorter, there is an issue with the initial pins assigned for ULANZ/CTA borrowers.

Basically, recent ULANZ registrations have been granted what look to be random number PINS, not the ‘last 4 digits of the phone number and borrower’s initials’ formula that is supposed to be granted.

E-services are looking into this. In the meantime, please reset library pins for ULANZ borrowers as part of the registration process (using the reset pin function on Horizon) so that their username and pin are both their barcode.
