We have historically asked people renewing their library subscription (aka external borrowers who pay a subscription fee) to come to the Central Libraryduring ‘office hours’. This is quite inconvenient for some people so we have decided that members who are *renewing* their subscription may do so ‘remotely’. Please direct any remote subscription renewal requests to lending@libr.canterbury.ac.nz and we can contact the borrower to explain the process.
(Please note that only subscription members and special agreement members can remotely renew their membership. All new subscriptions must be processed at the desk).
There is a fault with the renewal function on the Self-Loan Stations. When a borrower tries to renew a book that cannot be renewed (recalled, requested, hourly loan, maximum renewals) they still get a yellow ‘success’ tick, even though the date stays the same.
The Central Library received a Christchurch City Mission Bag this week with our copy of the Press as part of the Mission’s Brown Paper Bag Appeal and we’ve decided to participate in the drive. If you would like to contribute some groceries, please drop things into the bag down in the workroom or send them to us via the hampers.
I will drop the contributions off to the nearest New World at the end of next week.
The Smart Bin is not functioning properly, taking a lot longer than the 1-2 minutes it should take to check books in. This could result in borrowers unfairly incurring fines. If a student reports that they returned their book on time and shouldn’t have fines, and you can see it was returned to Central in the last couple of weeks, please take them at their word and waive the fines.
Students from a number of Australasian universities, including 20 Australian institutions, are able to access secure wireless internet while on the UC Campus through the Eduroam network. UC students and staff will also be able to access the internet at these institutions.
