It’s that time of year again where we can reflect on a job well done and look forward to a break and the start of a new year. And while reflecting what would be more rewarding than recognising the actions, attributes and contributions of your colleagues.
At this years Christmas function we would like to present some awards (categories below) and encourage you to nominate your peers. Please send these to aaron.cumming@canterbury.ac.nz and feel free to provide additional support such as pictures or you may wish to show how they have demonstrated our Library Values. Nominations need to be received no later then midday on Tuesday 5th December.
Any chance you have a trophy on your desk, under your desk, behind your desk? We’d love to receive these beauties as soon as possible! Please return trophies/awards to room 201 (Te Paea’s office), level 2 workroom, Central Library. Thanks in advance, Aaron
We welcome nominations for someone from within the Customer Services team for the Diny van Bussel Memorial Award. The person should have a positive and cheerful outlook despite difficult circumstances or challenges and be a valued team member. The intention is to make this an annual award, where the recipient will be announced at the final customer services quarterly meeting of the year and presented with the award at the Christmas function. Nominations should include some brief text outlining why you have chosen to put a person forward and can be emailed to either myself or Jenny Owens. Thank you.
Background on Diny.
Diny van Bussel was a valued member of the University Library for 15 years. She worked in various part time roles. She was a shelver in Education Library and Central Library, was a member of the RFID tagging team Dec 2011-Feb 2012 and then worked 4 years as a library assistant in EPS Library. She died in November 2015 after a long, brave, determined battle against her illness.
Diny was a much loved colleague and fondly remembered. She was proud of her Dutch heritage and always such a positive, friendly, caring person with a vibrant bubbly personality. She had a zest for life and showed great courage and a positive attitude when faced with adversity.

Due to the flooding ITS have opened another computer study lab. Erskine 248 will be 24 x 7 until further notice. Shona has advised if particular software is not installed the students should use the Software Centre (Start menu-> Software Center) to install the software.
I sadly have to inform you that Betty passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Betty worked on Level 5 as a tea lady for six years finishing in 2010. Her legacy remains strong in the library with her daughter, Sue Lloyd, in the customer services team and recipes for her legendary fruit cake and cheese scones in the care of library staff.
As per her wishes Betty will be laid to rest in a private graveside ceremony tomorrow afternoon. Our sincere condolences have been passed onto Sue and family.
