I’m outta here

Hi All!

For those of you that haven’t heard, I have been offered a position at van Asch Deaf Education Centre. I’ll be their e-Learning guy doing all sort of cool things but mostly working on professional development for primary and secondary teachers / hanging out at the beach.

Its all very exciting and was a hard decision to make but I think it will be the best for me, my family and career.

My last day will the the 5th of October, so make sure you get all your gifts, marriage proposals and tears to me before then.

Flemish Giant baby rabbits – Ōtautahi Rabbit Rehoming

Late last year my girlfriend started up Ōtautahi Rabbit Rehoming – Christchurch. Since then she has been able to find a pile of bunnies new homes. A couple weeks back she was asked to find new homes for a litter of 10 Flemish Giant X babies.

Along with finding new homes, each of these rabbits need desexing, to break the cycle, and vaccinating from this nasty new virus that has been introduced.

10 x rabbit desexing and vaccinating can cost a bunch. To try and cover some of these costs Cressida has started a Givealittle page.

Its just over half way there which is fantastic! It would be great to see if we could get it over the line and if it goes over the target any bonus funds would go towards vet costs for any more rabbits that come into care.

Oh and if you know anyone who would like to adopt, let us know ???

VIDEO GAAAMMMEEESSSS

I have brought in some video games and set them up by the Central Library Level 5 break room.

Talking with the e-Learning team we thought there was a dire lack of ping pong or pool table. Unfortunately I dont have either of them so wii Sports will have to do!

Left TV has a nintendo wii with Mario Kart, Sports and Play.
Right TV has Sega Master System with Sonic and Alex Kidd AND Atari 2600 with Asteroids.

Feel free to come and play, set up profiles or whatever! Maybe if we get enough interest we could set up a tournament or Grand Prix.

HOORAAYY!!

Have you updated your Echo360 links in LEARN?

At the end of 2017, Echo360 was upgraded to a new cloud-based system. All historical course recordings were transferred, and 2018 lecture capture requests are scheduled into the new system.

The old Echo360 system will be decommissioned at the end of March. Before this happens, it is important that teaching staff:

  • Check that all requested historical course recordings have successfully transferred.
  • Update old Echolinks to individual recordings, with links to those recordings now in the new system.

Instructions on updating EchoLinks can be found at Echo360 Help: Managing Recordings

Echo360 can be accessed from the Course Recordings block on LEARN course pages. If any historical lecture recordings are missing or not working correctly, a working copy can usually be transferred from the old system. This needs to be done before the old system is decommissioned.

New Echo360 familiarisation

Before Semester 1, interactive sessions are now available in mid-February. For more information and registration, go to http://canterbury.libcal.com/calendar/tst/

Any questions, or training requests, can be sent to e-Learning Support via Assyst Self Service.

The .gif Project

GifProject (1)

Some of my animation work has been selected as part of the .gif project  which is being run by DIRT gallery. Its an online exhibition which can be quite hard to look at. More .gifs are added each week so its worth going back to check on every so often.

At the end I think there is a vote and the winner gets a solo exhibition next year. So I will be sure to pester everyone again when that starts up.

There has been an update to Adobe Connect. If you are having trouble loading Adobe Connect you may need to update the Add-in.

The Add-in can be downloaded from Adobe here:

If you are on a UC managed computer the latest update should be installed automatically, but can also be installed from the Software Center.

More information on the Adobe Connect Meeting Addin can be found on the Adobe Website.

This is a growing resource and we plan to expand the Māori language interface going forward.

Te Reo Māori can be selected from the menu at the top of AKO | LEARN.

Reminder: Deletion of hidden files in Learn

Currently there are 24000 file resources on Learn which have been hidden (unavailable to students) for three years or more.  These files were uploaded before the copyright compliance tool was completed and hence hold a considerable but unknown risk of non-compliance with current copyright law and licenses, as they can be unhidden, which makes them reportable and available to students in Learn courses.

Therefore all hidden files that have not been accessed for 3 years or more will be deleted.  The deletion of these files will commence on the week of 25th July.  If you do want to keep your files, if you ‘unhide’ them they will not get marked for deletion.

If you have any questions please contact E-Learning Support
