I’m working on creating short introduction videos for a new summer course I’m developing, and desperately need one volunteer to do the voice-over for the videos.  The script is about 700 words. I have appreciated your help in the past and hope you can help again. You need to bring nothing except your vocal cords and your patience.

I look forward to seeing you, cheers,

All Editors Quit Top Linguistics Journal to Protest Elsevier’s Pricing

All six editors and all 31 editorial board members of Lingua, one of the top journals in linguistics, last week resigned to protest Elsevier’s policies on pricing and its refusal to convert the journal to an open-access publication that would be free online. As soon as January, when the departing editors’ noncompete contracts expire, they plan to start a new open-access journal to be called Glossa.

Kia hiwa rā, Kia hiwa rā!

A week of fun times, events and excitement are nearly upon us! This year, to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori a keen crew have curated together a week long programme of events just for library staff to celebrate te Reo Māori.

Events imminent upon the Horizon include:
* supporting the Mihi Whakatau in Central Library on Monday morning for the launch of University wide events,
* A team quiz challenge (think pub quiz format without the pub or booze though there will be prizes and of course -winners will have bragging rights).
* A daily “He pātai o te rā:Question of the day” quiz which will feature on Counterculture,
* A scavenger hunt that can be completed individually or in pairs around campus over the course of the week- competition ends 5pm on the Thursday
* Two bilingual storytimes to be held at Central Library with our on campus Early Childhood Centres
* A fun session of Wharewhare (Bingo) focusing on kupu Māori for the numbers 1-50 and family words e.g. mother, father, baby, aunt etc.
* A Waiata session followed by a shared kai to wind up our week of celebrations.

So remember whānau, participation and fun is what it’s all about (and of course if you’re competitively inclined, you’ve got to be in it to win it! )

More detailed information about the different events will be forthcoming next week. Events are open to all and we would love to see you there.

Email phising scams

From ITS

There have been numerous reports of phishing scams, such as reset password or validate email account. The ones we have identified so far appear to be from the same source and we have blocked the link on the UC firewall.

Please advise anyone who has received these to immediately delete the message.

High Demand Stats

We will shortly start withdrawing the Semester One High Demand material that is not wanted for Semester Two courses. Anyone, (probably Liaison Librarians – I can’t imagine anybody else would be interested) wanting to check issue stats before things are removed can do so here.

As always, there will be an overall snapshot of High Demand issues available via the statistics folder on the k:// drive or the High Demand wiki pages.
