Expired student records

On 28/02/07 and 01/03/07 a total of 4,930 student records will expire on Horizon. The majority of these students are not re-enrolling and later this year most of these records will be deleted.

A minority of these students will be late in enrolling or will be experiencing problems with their enrolment. For some of them this will mean that they cannot renew books that they already have out, or take out new books.

They will probably come to a lending desk and expect the Library to ‘fix’ this problem and continue to provide services. If this happens, please advise the student that their library borrower record is a copy of their student records and can only be updated from JADE when their enrolment is complete. To avoid fines, they may have to return un-renewable books.

The Library is unlikely to agree to any extension but persistent students may be referred to Helen Doidge or Philip Jane.

Starting Monday 5th March, lending staff should actively look for the date (under the photo) of student cards. If it is a 2006 card and their Horizon record has already updated, then the student should be advised to get a new 2007 card.
NB Some postgraduates have dates that span two years e.g. 07/07. They don’t require a new card until the printed date.

Engineering students’ A-J assignment

Engineering students are required to find a public works report from the Appendices to the Journals (shelved on Level 3 in the NZ Govt Pubs collection). Find the cumulative index volumes for the A-Js (helpfully shelved after the 1906 volumes) and look up Public Works to find a list of entries about bridges, roads, viaducts etc.
Alternatively most of the public works reports are in section D of the volumes. You might need to go up to the shelves with the students.

Password reset after Library PIN change

From Peter Kennedy: ‘We have had some reports of problems from students who have had their “My Account” PIN reset, and who then login and try and change their PIN.

The problem appears to be that the login is not case-sensitive, but the “Old PIN” entry when changing PINs is case sensitive.

At the moment, if you reset a student’s PIN, please ask them to use lower case when they go to change their PIN. I know that the characters on the barcode (and therefore the reset PIN) are in upper case (CU12345D), but ignore the inconsistency and get them to use lowercase when resetting (cu12345d).’

InformEd for Commerce

The InformEd Certificate Commerce Programme for Commerce is being offered again this semester. Classes will be advertised this week so there may be enquiries.

The programme is for stage 2 and 3 BCom students.

In order to qualify for the certificate students must complete at least 4 workshops including Cores 1-3. The certificate is a certificate of attendance – there is no assessment.

Online booking sheets are available.

If a student enrols, gets a card, and puts money on same day, their usercode will be created early next day (usually between 8am and 10am on heavy enrolment days) but the money won’t appear to be available for printing for a further day.
If they put money on after their usercode is created but same day, it will be available as usual, within 20 minutes.
Students can be manually enabled if they are in the former category. (by Alan or Michele)
