Library Managers Meeting discussed a few changes to the Electronic Resources Trial and Recommending Continuing Resources standard operating procedures. Links to the revised documents given below. The main changes are a) broadening the criteria Datasets will consider in deciding whether to approve a trial and b) to incorporate the new Information Resources Advisory Group (a new subcomittee of the Library Committee) into the workflow.

Renewals

Aggregator databases and EPIC
Library Managers Meeting has agreed that the EBSCO bundle should be purchased and ProQuest 5000 cancelled. We are discussing the final paperwork now with EBSCO. We will then send ProQuest our cancellation notice for ProQuest 5000 once the paperwork from EBSCO is agreed and completed. We will subscribe to ProQuest’s Health and Medical Complete database. The Liaison team are finalizing recommendations for the individual title subscriptions that will be needed as a result of losing some of the unique titles on ProQuest. Expect access to ProQuest 5000 to disappear on 1/1/13. The Gale aggregator databases (through EPIC) will not be renewed either. Expect access to these to disappear on 1/4/13.

The 2013 EBSCO bundle will include:
• MasterFile Premier
• Academic Search Complete
• Computers & Applied Sciences Complete
• Education Research Complete
• Humanities International Complete
• Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
• Religion and Philosophy Collection
• SociINDEX with Full-text
• Business Source Complete

There will be a number of consequences to tidy up as a result of this change from ProQuest to EBSCO, which is a major change. These include:
• Turning off/on access in Serials Solutions which will update Summon within 1-2 days
• Removing/adding database records from Horizon, database pages and Libguides
• The Serials Solutions MARC update file is likely to arrive 12th January – this will remove/add individual journal records from Horizon. We will ask Serials Solutions if we can load the changes earlier if possible
• Links from LEARN, the Course Information System and other places we may not have anticipated

LSS and liaison staff will be working on many of these changes in the coming few weeks.

We have signalled to the EPIC consortia that we would like to retain New Zealand Index, PressDisplay, Australia and NZ Reference Center, Oxford Art, Music and OED online. We hope it will be possible to do this within the EPIC consortia otherwise we may have to go direct to the publishers for these resources.

Packages

Wiley-Blackwell
Negotiations have reached their conclusion and we are now just checking what final authorisations are needed before confirming renewal. We are expecting the model to change from an opex (access titles)/capex (core titles) model to a “Full” model that includes perpetual access back to 1997 for all content on the Wiley package. However we are waiting for confirmation from CAUL/Wiley as to the final outcome.

Springer
Because we would be committing to a spend in excess of $NZ1M over a 3 year period, we are waiting for formal authorisation from the VC before we can confirm renewal.

ScienceDirect
The inclusion of 3 titles from Cell Press changes the agreement which means that we have to seek authorisation from the VC before we can confirm the renewal.

Royal Society of Chemistry
Negotiations with the publisher have concluded and we are seeking approval to take up a subscription to RSC Gold (three year deal). If this is approved, this would provide access to 11 additional titles in 2013.

Taylor and Francis
Renewal has been confirmed and this is moving to the invoicing stage.

LexisNexis and Brookers
Negotiations with these providers are continuing. Peter H will set up a meeting of the relevant liaison librarians next week to discuss the latest offers.

CCH
Renewal has been confirmed and this is moving to the invoicing stage. We will keep access to the Master Tax Guide in print because the electronic updating service does not provide access to all the content in the print copy.

Nature Gold
As a result of feedback from academic staff and revised pricing from NPG we have decided to RETAIN Nature Gold but will swap out the lowest use title (Nature Reviews Drug Discovery) for a new title (Nature neuroscience).

Scopus
This is moving through the final renewal stages.

Abstracting and Indexing databases
We discussed whether or not subscriptions to the following resources should be retained. The decision has now been made to renew these for 2013:
• Historical abstracts
• RILM
• Arctic and Antarctic Regions
• RISM

Oxford Scholarship Online
We had trial access to this resource after the earthquakes and we received a number of enthusiastic comments from users in response. We are purchasing the following modules (now at the invoicing stage):

Institute of Physics Journal Archive
Not exactly “new” – we currently pay a subscription for this. However we received advance information from the IoP that the subscription model is unlikely to be available in its current form from 2014 onwards and it would be worthwhile considering outright purchase of this archive. Because we are unlikely to have the funds to purchase this outright next year, and because this is an important resource we wouldn’t want to lose access to, we have taken the opportunity to purchase this archive now. This is now at the invoicing stage.

Sage Research Methods
At the request of the liaison team we are also hoping to include SRM (6 year deal) as a new resource (again we had trial access after the earthquakes).

New subscription recommendations
The recommendations that were approved by Datasets (see minutes 10 Oct) have been ordered or included in packages. Access will be available when the first issue for 2013 is published.
