Cambridge Histories Online Access
Access to Cambridge Histories Online is down at the moment, we are working with Cambridge University Press to get this resolved ASAP.
Springer platform changes
From Springer: “New Zealand Springer customers will soon be migrated to the new SpringerLink platform. This will take place overnight Monday 10th September, which means the changes will be in place for the start of the day on Tuesday 11th September, New Zealand time. At that time, we will turn on the redirection for your IP addresses, and your users will be redirected to the new SpringerLink. If for any reason a user has any problem on the new site, there will be a link in the header (so that it is on every page), that will allow them to go back to the old SpringerLink”

Recommending a new continuing resource (subscription) – new SOP
Recently Peter Hosking and Sue Johnston conducted a review of our procedures for recommending a new continuing resource (e.g. serials subscription). Peter and Sue’s recommendations were duly discussed by the Library Managers and the outcome of that is that we now have a new standard operating procedure for recommending a new continuing resource. This SOP describes the steps involved throughout the recommendation process and provides a structured document (Appendix 1) that the Liaison Librarian (relating to the subject area concerned) fills out in consultation with the recommender. The Liaison Librarian then sends the recommendation to Resource Acquisitions for completion. The recommendation then goes to Library’s Datasets group for consideration. Please familiarise yourself with the new SOP as there have been a number of changes. There is a new Library web page for recommending a new subscription that replaces the old recommendation form.

Alexander Street Press visit 3/5/12
Julie Stevens and Dan Hamid from Alexander Street Press visited today.
Alexander St Press are growing their collection of videos that are available as single title purchase so you don’t have to buy collections outright. At the moment the number is about 1200 titles, they expect this to grow to 5000 by the end of the year.
You can visit www.academicvideostore.com to browse the Alexander St Press videos that are on offer. This site only shows pricing for 3 year subscriptions, but we can approach Alexander Street Press for outright purchasing options if desired. Not everything on this site is available for single title purchase.
Alexander Street Press have also offered to supply us with promotional material that could be useful in promoting their content to our users. I will pass this information onto the relevant liaison librarians when I receive it.
For any questions for further information, please contact the Resource Acquisition team acquisitions@libr.canterbury.ac.nz
