LibGuides V2 migration complete

It’s now safe to log into both versions of LibGuides. All LibGuides editors should now have accounts in V2 (use the LibApps link at the bottom of the page), but please report any problems logging in to eServices.

We’ll be looking through the site in more detail today to work out what needs to be fixed. It’s already obvious that there are a few minor formatting problems that will need to be corrected, and we’ll post a list of these and how to fix them. Alternatively, please come along to one of the sessions over the next 2 weeks.

If you encounter any other problems, please report them to eServices.

Thanks,
Donna Barber

Reminder: LibGuides migration next Wednesday.

Please remember that next Wednesday, 8th April is the day that LibGuides will be migrated to version 2.

Please DO NOT log into Version 1 or Version 2 of LibGuides on that day!

This means that any edits you need to do for the beginning of next week must be completed today.

After the migration:
Please remember that the migration does not make Version 2 our live site. Any changes that you want to make to the live site will need to be duplicated in both versions until we switch over to Version 2. Unless the changes are absolutely essential, please just concentrate on getting your migrated sites ready for the beginning of term 2 to minimise the workload.

Thanks,

Automated deleted request notices

Starting from Monday, we will be sending out automated notices to borrowers when their requests are cancelled in Horizon. This is in response to students raising the issue at the recent Enzyme workshops.

Things that library staff will need to be aware of:

• If you need to delete a request and you do not want an automated notice to go to the borrower (e.g. if you’re putting the request back onto a replacement record, or you need to write a more detailed explanation to the borrower than the notice message provides), you’ll need to delete the “Request Deleted” block from the borrower’s record before the notices are generated the next morning.

• If the borrower deletes their own requests via My Library Account, they will still receive a notice. We can’t switch this off.

The notice that will be sent to borrowers will read “Your requests for the following items have been cancelled. The items may have been moved into a high demand hourly collection or may no longer be available. Please contact the Library or check the Library Catalogue for more details.”

Academic year hours

Lisa Lee has kindly updated the hours in Horizon to match the academic year. Could Horizon please be restarted on all circ machines that were logged in before 8.30am to pick up this change (with the exception of the Education Library). If Horizon isn’t restarted then hourly loans may start to check out as overnight loans earlier in the day than they should.

Thanks,
Donna

Trial replacement for Meebo

We’re currently trialling a possible replacement service for AskLIVE, since Meebo are slowly abandoning their public chat rooms. The service we’re trialling is called LibraryH3lp, which is quite similar to Meebo, but offers more functionality, including chat transfers, queues, chat widgets for individuals or subject areas, and statistics and reports.

If anyone would like to test the service to see what it is like, please email eservices@libr.canterbury.ac.nz for an account. A few of us in the group will try to remain logged in as much as possible so there will usually be someone to test with. Please pass on any comments you have about the service to myself, Kathryn Andrews, Deborah Fitchett, Janette Nicolle or Erin Kimber.

Some basic information about where to log in and how to test the patron widget can be found on Camelot.
