Alphabetical indexes are still working.

We now have a replacement client for Pandion called Pidgin, which you’ll find in your Windows Start Menu. It has better sound alerts than Meebo.com, but you can choose to keep using Meebo via your browser if you prefer.
Instructions on how to start using Pidgin are available on Camelot. However, if you have any problems or need help setting it up, please contact Library IT.

The persistent handle links to documents in the repository are not currently working. I’ve contacted the handle administrators about this, and will update this post when access is restored. In the meantime, users will be able to access the records by replacing hld.handle.net in the URL with ir.canterbury.ac.nz.
e.g.
http://hdl.handle.net/10092/1927
is
http://ir.canterbury.ac.nz/handle/10092/1927

Anyone wanting some basic wiki training can come along to one of 2 sessions organised for Collection Services and Lending in the level 5 training room:
Thursday 9th April 2pm-3pm
Tuesday 21st April 11am-12pm
Please let me know if you would like to come to one of these sessions (if you haven’t already).
It would also be a good idea to discuss the conversion of your team’s Camelot pages with your manager beforehand, so that you have something to work on during the session.
Donna
There hasn’t been much activity converting the Camelot pages into the Wiki, so I want to find out whether people feel like they need training, or whether it’s just a busy time of year.
If you feel like you want training before you get started, could you please email me or add a comment to this post? If there’s enough demand then we could have a session to look at the basics, and then give everyone a chance to create content and ask questions.
Alternatively, if you just want to jump in and have a go on your own, you can add whatever you want to the Sandbox. Just click Add Page in the menu at the bottom of the page to get started.

Just an update on where we’re at with the recent issues with Meebo.
Pandion
Meebo have changed their connection settings, and Pandion is no longer able to connect to the service. I’m looking around for another instant messaging client that will be able to automatically connect to our room and give good sound/visual alerts. Keep using Meebo.com in the meantime.
Browser disconnection problems
Some people have reported that they’re being disconnected. Meebo offer the following advice:
– Connect via https://www.meebo.com/ (note the “s” after http)
– Try to avoid downloading high bandwidth resources while using Meebo (any network disruptions or overloads can cause disconnections).
– Clear your browser cache
Deirdre noticed that some people in Collection Services that were being disconnected had the videos open in Meebo.com. Minimise all the advertising/video panels by clicking the arrows on the divider between the chat session and video, and the tab heading in the advertising panel at the bottom of the page.
Donna
We are having some network problems at the moment, including staff email. ICTS are aware of the problem and don’t know how long it will take to fix.
We’ll keep you up to date with any news.

There’s a problem with connecting to Meebo (AskLIVE) via Pandion at the moment. If you’re rostered onto AskLIVE, try Pandion first. If it doesn’t connect, login to meebo.com with your meebo ID (uclib_name) and password. The UC Librarian’s chat room should be in your list of contacts, but if it’s not, click on the Meebo rooms link in the top-right, and search for “uc_librarian” in the search box.
You’ll need to be aware that this login method doesn’t alert with sounds, so you’ll need to regularly check your screen for incoming messages.

Library IT have been working on moving the Camelot IT help pages (under How to…) onto the Wiki. We’ve now updated most of this section, and I’ll be updating the links from Camelot this afternoon. You’ll notice that you’ll need to login when you visit the wiki, as only Library Staff have access.
Donna
This is a reminder to carefully check your links to the library catalogue, as I’ve found a few broken links in LibGuides that are supposed to go to catalogue records. Please don’t copy your searches from HIP and reuse them in LibGuides, as it will copy all your session information and the link will break.
The easiest way to create a reliable link to a catalogue record is to use the HIP Linkmaker.
Please test your links when you’ve added them to LibGuides, and contact Library IT if you’re unsure.
