Marketing Plan 2015

The Marketing Plan for 2015 has been approved by the library managers. A copy of the plan is available on the K drive in the ~Operations folder.

This year we’re aiming to further promote our wonderful staff and collections. You’ll see things like better promotion of the Liaison Team on Level 5, new print material (including postcards with images from the UC art collection), better advertising of library training sessions, revamped LCD slides in the Library and around campus, and more.

We welcome your ideas and have an email account (librarymarketing@libr.canterbury.ac.nz) where you can let us know about events going on around campus, new resources, or other things you think might be of wider interest.

The Marketing Group members are: Beth, Damian, Denise, Jamie, Margaret, Nicky, Nikki and Romy

Fines Amnesty

I thought you might like to see the message sent to us by the CHCH City Mission thanking us for the cans..

“Thank you so much! What a great effort – we do appreciate this amazing donation and thank you for your creative ideas!”

Thanks again for helping make the amnesty a success. We’ll definitely look at running it again next year.

Fines amnesty

Thanks to everyone who helped promote the fines amnesty and collected cans at the desk. We’ve done really well and have over 300 cans which will be collected by the City Mission from the Education Library later this week.

Highest fine paid = $220.50 which was 44 cans

Cheers
Margaret

Fines Amnesty

From Monday 13th to Friday 17th we are having our first ever fines amnesty!

For each can of food received, $5 can be waived from their record. In Horizon please select ‘Waiver’ under the blocks tab and enter the reason as ‘Fines Amnesty’. This will allow us to run stats for this event.

We suggest you either place cans straight into a hamper and send to Education Library as you go, or put the cans on display to encourage other students to participate (please keep it relatively secure so that the cans are not recycled to pay for more fines!) Cans will be collected by the City Mission from the Education Library the following week.

A reminder that lost book fees are not part of this promotion.

Thanks for your assistance with this, please give any of us on the Marketing Team any feedback you may have. It would be great to run it again in the future.

Fines amnesty

During the last week of lectures we will be holding a fines amnesty. From the 13-17th October anyone with library fines will be able to pay their fines with cans of food, $5 = 1 can. Cans will be accepted for all fines, except lost books. At the end of the amnesty the cans will be donated to the Christchurch City Mission.

Advertising for the amnesty will go up at the end of September.

reading in te reo

Maori language week has finished. However, the Maori Language Commission is encouraging people to learn a word a week, every week of the year. In the Education Library we are supporting this initiative. At the moment we have a display of reo Maori picture books that have been paired with their English version for people to enjoy. This afternoon we took a snap of one of our students and her daughter doing just that null

Marketing Group update

While Lisa is on parental leave, I’m looking after the Marketing Group and Glen the Social Media Group (Twitter and Facebook). We’ll be doing our best to see that the marketing plan keeps ticking along. You can see the plan here if you’re curious K:\LIBR-Library\Marketing\Planning\Operational_Plan\2014\LibraryMarketingPlan_2014.docx

If you have any events coming up that you would like promoted, need a new pamphlet, or have other bright ideas, please feel free to let us know!

There are a few things coming up, some of which we’ll be asking for participation from staff
• The first is a campaign to promote the Library, our resources and staff. We’ll be taking snaps of staff going about their work and will post these on Twitter and Facebook. The idea is to increase the visibility of staff and increase our community’s understanding of what we do day to day. I’d quite like to start this off with a pic of the Support Services exercise group
• We’re also looking to create more slides to go on the Library homepage in the spot where we currently have the ‘know your zone’ / RDU slide
• After a few months’ break, the ‘Librarians’ favourite books of the month’ subject guide is back http://canterbury.libguides.com/newbooks Alison J has a selection of books on emergency management this month (demonstrating her new found love of Civil Engineering). If you’d like to help out with suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!

The Marketing Group includes the following members: Beth, Denise, Glen, Jo, Nikki Saunders, Romy, and Margaret.
And the Social Media Group: Beth, Glen, Jamie, Nicky, and Margaret.

Cheers
Margaret

You’ve probably spotted the link to the Library’s orientation page on our homepage http://library.canterbury.ac.nz/orientation.shtml It contains links to various things going on in the Library during orientation. Promotional posters have be put up around the campus and in the Halls – there’s also an ad in Omag.

Displays and Tours
Each library will have a display designed to appeal to new students. We will also be offering tours in each library – EPS, MB, and Education are on demand. Central Library are scheduled at different times during the day.

How you can help..
It would be great if you could promote the website and the activities going on – either in classes or when you talk to students at the Info Desk or around the Library.

Thanks, Margaret & the Orientation Group
