ICTS told us yesterday that 11,900 students have successfully logged into uclive and used email.
Horizon will continue to have the @student address until further notice, but the email should forward through to @uclive. However we are getting 10-20 students a day coming through with their pre-enrolment address, and even a few with no email address or uclive addresses. This is much higher number than usual with the incorrect address. We are working on this with ICTS to get it fixed. Most of these students enrolled for the first time 2006 or earlier.
If a student says they have not got email from the Library:
1. Ask if they have logged into UC Live and checked for email
2. If they have not logged in, remind them to put uocnt\ in front of their usercode (eg uocnt\abc123)
3. If they have tried that, refer them to ICT Service desk
4. If they have logged into UC Live and their email is not there, get their student username and email Library IT with the details
You could get them to check their pre-enrolment email address, but this could be changed back to @student at any moment so it is best that it gets fixed properly so that all student email ends up in UC Live.
Cheers, Anne
We have made some significant progress on Summon in the last week. The catalogue is now fully up-to-date. The date sorting seems to be working properly and the 245$b is indexing (title). There are still some problems with the Library of Congress subject headings. DSpace and Digital Library are not yet available. The problem linking to full text in Ebsco databases were it does a title search instead of linking to the item should be fixed by 26 Feb. The current priorities are to get the records updated for the EPS Library and the subject headings fixed. Please continue to report issues to Library IT. Thanks, Anne
Serials Solutions have finally knowledged that there was a problem with loading our catalogue records that has not happened at any other site. They are currently investigating why it happened, once this is determined they can work out how to fix it. This is affecting the 245$b, subject headings, date sorting, and stop words causing problems.
The updating of records is meant to start next week now.
The best way to search for catalogue records in Summon at the moment is to remove possible stop words and to use the “book” content type. eg “treaty waitangi” works a lot better than “treaty of waitangi”.
I have asked ICTS for a login for the Library so we can at least see what the students are seeing, and can do some testing and support. Also note the sessions tomorrow. Cheers, Anne
Not much progress this week. We have reported everything on the list on Camelot to SS and are waiting for responses. The catalogue updating is expected to start 16 Feb. For more detail see Camelot. Please continue to report issues and user comments. I know there has been some negative comments from some academic staff so it would be good to gage how widespread this is. There are issues with our catalogue records that I hope we can fix reasonably quickly. The best way to search is to avoid Boolean words and punctuation in searches, and to use the facets.
The number of issues being reported to Library IT is low for this time of year, which is a bit of a worry. If there is anything that you have noticed that needs to be fixed, please tell us now. If you have already told us and it is not done, send a reminder. If we know about issues we can prioritize them and see if there are any patterns emerging before they become urgent.
If you are going to use something for teaching, check it now to make sure it works. Make sure all the laptops/netbooks are regularly plugged into the network to get updates. Is your student login working? Have you visited the places you are teaching in to see if there have been any AV changes?
Please check the website to ensure that it is accurate and you know about changes. Read and contribute to Counterculture frequently. It will be a busy start of term with the EPS Library move and ICTS changes affecting students. Cheers, Anne
Last night ICTS implemented a new priority system for RAS which means that Library payment plus transactions should now be processed on CSGold very quickly, in minutes rather than sometimes taking hours. This change was very difficult to test prior to going live, so if you are still seeing speed problems please let Library IT know. There has been no progress on the problems with charging staff who have multiple accounts. Cheers, Anne
A reminder that user access to e-resources on digital library will cease from 15 February. From then on all access should be through the appropriate Learn course. Cheers Anne
We have been working with Serials Solutions on a number of issues with our Summon installation.
– harvesting of the IR and Digital Library, SS are working on this now and they should be searchable in the next few days
– updating catalogue records in Summon – the current records reflect the catalogue back in November, we are waiting for them to start processing the update files but this will not happen until sometime after 15 Feb as they have a large backlog of loads.
– bibs with no item records were not included in the first load by mistake, we a sending them an update file – sadly this includes most of our online journals
– LC Subject headings – should be indexed and searchable – SS looking at why this does not work
– Dates limiting working inconsistently for catalogue records – probably a MARC map issue – SS investigating
– Full text not resolving to articles in Ebsco databases – doing a title search instead – 360 Link issue – will be resolved in next two weeks
– replace 360 Search with Summon in Learn – Catherine working with Flexible Learning Group
– date formats and spelling of catalog – on SS to-do list
– Help pages – ideas to Catherine please
– ISBNs with hyphens not linking back to catalogue – investigating but looks like the ISBN are not in our catalogue so can’t link
– issues with Endnote and APA exporting – need to document these more before sending to SS – offers of help would be great
– availability information from catalogue – expected after 15 Feb
Please report any other issues to Library IT or add to wiki
Cheers, Anne
• The first load of the UC catalogue is loading now and should be finished by tomorrow morning
• Live availability is delayed for a number of weeks but the link back to our catalogue should work
• Online loads on a daily basis will not be available until early to mid Feb so the catalogue records will be out-of-date
• UC Research Repository and DSpace are not yet available
• The live site is not affected by the work above so can be relied on for teaching.
Please test and let Library IT know of any issues, in particular with the federated coverage. Does it contain everything you expect?
